Why study 英语 at 体育彩票外围平台州立 大学?

The 英语 Department is a vibrant community of teachers 和 students devoted to the study of literature, 语言, 和文化. 英语专业 pursue an engaging course of study that is intellectually rigorous yet flexible 和 dynamic. In the 英语 Department, students learn to read 和 write critically, to think 和 conduct research independently. Their intellectual horizons are broadened through an introduction to works from a range of historical periods 和 countries around the world. The major helps them become fluent in critical methods—historicism, race 和 gender studies, formal 和 textual 分析—that they can apply not just to literature, but also to the representations at the heart of their rapidly changing world. Students develop higher-level 写作 和 思考 skills that support careers in teaching, 出版, 法律, 新闻, 通信, the mental health professions 和 业务.

The Department of 英语 offers a wide range of 本科 和 graduate-level degree 项目, including three br和-new 项目: an 英语 major with a concentration in Creative Writing, an 英语 major with a concentration in Film，和 new five-year BA-MA degree. We also offer our traditional 主修和副修 in 英语, as well as minors in our 创意写作, 电影研究, American Identities 和 Cultures 项目.

我们的 英语文学硕士 offers small seminar classes with world-renowned experts in 英语 literature as well as a wide variety of 项目 for teachers. 我们的 teacher 教育 项目 include two degrees at the BA level (grades K-6 or preschool to grade 12), two new BA/MA options that allow students to get their certification plus a Masters Degree.  For details on course requirements, consult our 课程指导 和 大学目录.

The skills that you develop in studying 英语—reading, 写作, 思考, research—matter in the workforce, 在民主, in your personal life. 英语专业 learn to interpret difficult texts, conduct independent research, evaluate conflicting arguments, underst和 cinematic vocabularies of image 和 sound, communicate effectively by mastering the 英语 语言. They acquire 和 develop skills that not only help to l和m a job, but also strengthen their chances for promotion after they’ve l和ed it, when employers 和 supervisors recognize their talents for research, 分析, communication 和 persuasion.

我们的 graduates become teachers at every level, kindergarten through college, at home or in remote areas of the world. 他们是编辑, 律师, 记者, 企业家, 政策分析人士, public relations personnel 和 public servants. 我们的 faculty are dedicated teachers 和 productive scholars with national 和 international reputations in their fields. We are actively engaged in research 和 creative work, 出版书籍, 文章, 论文, 评论, 诗, 故事, 小说, 翻译, 还有很多其他的. Almost all of our classes are taught by full-time, tenure-track professors, we take an active interest in our students’ academic careers.
